Dear Friend,

Today our world is full of progress and achievement, but there are still many people confronting devastating realities.  Our day-to-day fears don’t amount to the struggle that some people face.  One of the worst horrors that I have seen is the trouble families with ill children experience.  They have to endure daily pain and can only hope that their child will live to experience a full life of happiness.

I want to lessen, and maybe prevent, this horrible suffering.  In fulfilling this desire, I have taken part in a remarkable charity that has made considerable contributions to this cause.  I have had the privilege to be involved with “Angels on the Bay” for the past seventeen years.  “Angels on the Bay” is a non-profit organization that works for the improvement of healthcare, education and research for children.  Please check our website: www.angelsonthebay.org for additional information.  In our efforts to support families of ill children, the “Angels on the Bay” children’s charity has raised numerous funds.  Some of the donations went toward the renovation and refurbishment of three pediatric units for the Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn and Queens, St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital, and Schneider’s Children’s Hospital.  Additional healthcare facilities that have benefited from the children’s charity are the Long Island Jewish Hospital, Franklin General, Angels on the Bay pediatric unit of Peninsula Hospital, and the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center Pediatric unit.  Also, the evaluation and education of children with special needs has been made possible with funds provided to Heart Share human services of New York and River Fund. In addition, research by the SIDS Alliance to battle sudden infant death syndrome has been made feasible due to the support offered by “Angels On the Bay.”

These accomplishments are just the beginning of huge endeavors that will continue in the future.  Someone who shared my enthusiasm for helping those in need was my dear friend and fellow board member Mary Napolitano.  Even though Mary had struggled terribly through her own fight with cancer she continued to give herself and her talents for the Angels on the Bay.  Additionally, since its inception, Mary never missed our annual race.  Her beautiful smiling face graced our registration tables each year as well as her words of encouragement at the finish line.

On June 2, 2011 Mary lost her battle with cancer, and in her honor and her memory we will dedicate our annual race to her.  With this notion, I wanted to invite you to our Mary Napolitano Memorial Festival of Races that will be held on September 11, 2016 at the Jericho High school fields. The day’s events consist of three races: a ¼-mile kids run starting at 8:15AM, and a 5K and 10K held at 9:00AM. The Kids Run will forever be known as the Team Valentina Kids Run. Valentina was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. She fought like a warrior, and although her journey ended way too soon, she touched more lives that most people will in a lifetime.  I am asking that you consider becoming a corporate sponsor, entering the race, or supporting the runners.  A contribution of any kind will be greatly appreciated.

Children need our assistance and “Angels on the Bay” realizes this noteworthy calling.  I am asking for you to lend a hand and offer your support, time and generosity.  We are all Angels in Training that can make a difference, one step at a time.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at rr1216@aol.com or via telephone at (917)-747-8079.  All race information is also included on our website at www.angelsraces.com so please check it out!
